Instruction that Respects
Your Time and Your Work
Synapt Works is a small school based in Kuching, Sarawak. We design and teach structured tracks in AI development for working engineers.
Our Story
How Synapt Works Came to Exist
The school grew from a fairly specific frustration. Several engineers working in Sarawak — in telco infrastructure, embedded systems and industrial control — were trying to move into AI work. They had the mathematics. They had the engineering habits. What they lacked was a structured path that started from where they actually were, rather than from a blank-slate computing student in a different time zone.
Synapt Works opened in 2021 to address that gap. The name comes from the idea of a synaptic connection formed through deliberate practice — not through passive consumption of lectures, but through the kind of repeated, corrected work that engineers already know how to do.
We run three tracks. Each one has a written specification: entry expectations, weekly hours, the number of reviewed exercises, the mentor-to-learner ratio, and exactly what the completion record will say. We put these numbers on the front of the track description — the way you would find tolerances printed on a piece of test equipment — because we think learners deserve to compare programmes before committing time and money.
Our office is in Kuching. All live sessions are scheduled in Malaysian time. We do not coordinate employment arrangements or make representations about salary outcomes. Our scope is education and practice, and we state that plainly.
Mission
To provide structured, measurable instruction in AI development for engineers who already have domain knowledge and need a clear path into production-ready practice — not marketing copy about transformation.
What We Value
- Precision over promise — state what a track covers, then deliver it
- Measurement from day one — ablation, experiment tracking, honest reporting
- Small cohorts — mentor ratios are capped and stated up front
- Scope clarity — we say what we do not do as clearly as what we do

The People
Who Designs and Delivers the Tracks
Danial Rozaini
Curriculum Director
Former network engineer who moved into ML infrastructure. Designed the Signal Basics and Deployment tracks. Focuses on entry calibration — making sure learners start where their knowledge actually sits, not where they think it sits.
Nurul Liyana
Lead Mentor — Modelling Track
Research background in vision systems, several years in production at a logistics firm. Runs the Instrumented Modelling track and leads the peer review circles. Particular interest in ablation discipline and reproducibility.
Safwan Hamid
Mentor — Deployment Track
Infrastructure and SRE background. Designed the incident simulation exercises and the capstone observation protocol. Brings a pager-carrying perspective to everything on the deployment track.
Standards
How We Approach Quality in Instruction
Written Specifications
Each track has a printed specification listing scope, hours per week, number of exercises and mentor ratio. These are published before enrolment and not changed mid-cohort.
Cohort Size Controls
Cohorts are capped to maintain the stated mentor ratio. We do not overfill a cohort because a track filled quickly — the ratio printed on the front panel is the ratio that runs.
Reviewed Exercise Cycles
Every track includes a defined number of reviewed exercises with written feedback from the assigned mentor. Feedback is specific to the learner's submission, not generic commentary.
Data and Privacy Handling
Learner data — submissions, feedback records and personal information — is held in accordance with our Privacy Policy and not shared with third parties for marketing.
Plain-Language Terms
Terms and Conditions are written in plain English and cover refund conditions, what the completion record contains, and what the school does not undertake on behalf of learners.
Track Review Cycle
Track content is reviewed between cohorts. Where tools, libraries or best practices have shifted, exercises and recorded material are updated before the next cohort begins.
Our Approach
Vocational Education in AI, Structured for Engineers
AI development instruction in Malaysia tends to fall into two categories: short online courses that survey topics without providing depth, or postgraduate programmes that require full-time attendance and two or more years of commitment. Synapt Works sits between them.
The Signal Basics Track is designed for engineers who work in adjacent technical fields and want a structured, manageable path into AI without abandoning their current role. Nine weeks, nine hours a week, twice-weekly live sessions in Malaysian time, a defined number of reviewed exercises, and a completion record that lists what was covered. No more than that is claimed.
The Instrumented Modelling Track is built on the assumption that knowing how to train a model is not the same as knowing how to report on it honestly. Experiment tracking, ablation reports and reproducible environments are not optional extras in this track — they are the core discipline around which the rest is organised.
The Deployment and Reliability Track focuses on engineers who will be responsible for systems running in production. The exercises include incident simulation, rollback design and cost reporting to stakeholders. The capstone runs for four weeks under observation, so the completion record can describe not just what was built but how it behaved.
Synapt Works does not arrange employment, contact hiring organisations on behalf of learners, or make representations about outcomes. We are a school. Our responsibility is to deliver what is written on the front panel of each track — clearly, on time and at the stated mentor ratio. That is the scope of our work.
